Our objectives are to fight against child marriage, child labor, and human trafficking; encourage income-generating skills such as tailoring centers where women can learn a trade for free in order to support themselves and their families; provide aid to government schools, supply school uniforms, backpacks, and school items to students; organize educational programs, hygiene classes, and cultural fieldtrips; build schools to further the education of girls and boys; finance teachers’ monthly salary, provide educational scholarships for students in 20 different schools; sponsor over 700 poor and orphaned children of all casts and religion; provide health care, medical treatment, and much-needed vitamins; build water wells that provide clean water to entire communities; distribute food to the poor and destitute; and aid victims of natural disaster such as earthquakes, landslides, and floods.
Caring For Orphaned And Abandoned
People often overlook how severely abandonment impacts a child. The immediate and traumatic emotional affect of losing one’s parents is amplified by those who would take advantage of young children who are left parentless. Boys and girls under the age of 15 are far more likely to be snatched from the streets and forced into child prostitution. Many orphans have no drinking water or food to eat and they are usually forced to sleep on the street, in piles of garbage, or in the sewers in order to keep warm. Many children, especially young girls, are sold for child labor or sexual commodities. Girls are often so devalued that many of them are abandoned by their parents at or shortly after birth. The “lucky ones” are left on the steps of orphanages. Most children, however, grow up on the streets and are forced to look after themselves. Many of them become victims of violence from local gangs or eventually join street gangs themselves.
Sowers Nepal is committed to the care for many girls and boys by placing them in a friendly, loving, and safe environment with incredible staff and caretakers. Our boys and girls are fed, clothed, given medical treatment, given an education, and dearly loved.
Providing Medical Care And Treatment
Eighty percent of Asia’s diseases are curable—even preventable. However, the lack of access to proper hygiene, medication, health care, and hospitals has increased the number of people who are suffering and even dying from ailments and diseases — most of which are treatable. Sowers Nepal sends out medical teams who are willing to serve anyone who needs medical attention free of charge. These health care providers cover a large and diverse range of medical services, including general medical treatment, dentistry, eye checks, and health education that help to address the unmet medical needs of rural and oftentimes impoverished communities.
Relief For Victims Of Natural Disasters
Each year floods, earthquakes, landslides, droughts, tsunamis, and cyclones ravage numerous countries, threaten people's lives, destroy their livelihoods, and cause great destruction and despair. The survivors often go under in the struggle to survive the aftermath, or are unable to rebuild their families and communities.
Sowers Nepal organizes and provides assistance in the form of relief teams that bring immediate help to those who are suffering and covers the time-period until relief funds arrive. The severity of a disaster and extent of aid offered by relief forces given cannot be predicted, but our teams are equipped with basic aid which includes food and clean water, temporary shelter in the form of tents, blankets, clothes, and hygiene articles. Our goal is to meet the needs of disaster victims by providing technical support, relief supplies, medical treatment, and financial assistance to individuals and families in distress. Natural disasters leave thousands for dead and hundreds unaccounted for. When the masses undergo immediate evacuation, they lose the only life they have ever known.
In April of 2015, a team was dispatched to regions across Nepal that were severely struck by the devastating earthquakes and landslides resulting from loose soil and heavy rains. Several thousand families have been receiving help and now partake in recovery activities that enable communities to get back on their feet.
